It didn’t seem like Friday today but instead a strange casual Monday as we had another mid-week holiday for Ascension Day yesterday. It was nice to *sleep in* on a Thursday until 7 am and eat a leisurely breakfast while reading. My only wish is that sometime we could have a mid-week where the stores actually remained open for some shopping. Alas, that is not possible with holidays here.

Martin found this handy list of public holidays in Switzerland and it was interesting to compare the holidays from canton to canton. While it seems like we have a lot of holidays here, it is just that they are so condensed between late March and the end of May. I guess the canton to live in just might be Ticino given that they observe even more Catholic holidays. In total, Zürich gets 10 public holidays per year. However, as I calculate, at least half the holidays are floating which means in some years when more fall on the weekend we don’t actually get anything.

This weekend I’m hoping for some sunny weather for a long run and some downtime for reading. Here are a few links for you to enjoy as you finish the work week.

  • in the kitchen // These brownies are on my kitchen baking list, and so are these vegetarian mezze recipes from Yotam Ottolengthi.
  • for the walls // I wish our walls weren’t already papered with textured white paper so that I could try out some of these removable wallpaper tiles.

I wish you all a lovely weekend!
