freitag favorites + spring forward

My freitag favorites have really been piling up around here since I’ve been especially busy the last weeks between a week in Washington, D.C., for a conference and some sightseeing, as well as having lots of fun time with my parents back here hanging around town, touring the *must-see* Monet exhibit at Fondation Beyeler, stopping by the Vitra Haus (Reese loved the kid’s chairs), and spending a rainy day at the Thermalbad, as well as some not-so-fun days when Reese was down with a fever, nasty stomach bug, and then a cold. Now she’s on the mend, and the rest of us are finally getting over similar sicknesses, so weekend is looking up.

So, with March nearly over, I’ve accepted that we basically missed our opportunity for our favorite winter activities this year, and I’m moving on to spring (blossoms, allergies, etc.). We may lose an hour of sleep and be stuck with darker mornings for awhile longer, but at least I can tackle some spring cleaning.

Tomorrow, we’re hoping to get outside and visit the children’s zoo in Rapperswil after taking a quick tour of the daycare where Reese will go later this summer.

Enjoy my favorites, and I wish you all sunny, spring weekend . . .

freitag favorites + no plans

My weekend plans are pretty similar to Reese’s this afternoon: cuddle up and read. I’m wishing we were looking forward to more snow, but I’ll be content with a walk through town, some good coffee with breakfast, and a cozy weekend with my sweet little family. I hope your plans are just as nice.

So, I’ll leave you with this week’s favorites . . .

freitag favorites + defrosting

The freezing cold weather of the last few weeks is finally on its way out and for the first time in days my ears didn’t hurt on the walk to the train. I’d love it if we got some more snow, but I’m a little tired of just super cold gray days.

Last Saturday we spent a day in snowy Andermatt (and enjoyed the joy of Reese’s first sledding adventure). Tomorrow we’re planning a quiet day and then we’ll on Sunday we’re off to a coffee cupping at Mame Coffee, a new fave coffee shop, followed by the Annie Leibovitz exhibition of portraits of women.

So, I wish you a nice weekend, and I’ll leave you with my favorites this week . . . Read more

freitag favorites + snow

After a week of living in a swirling snow globe (as you can see below), the weather turned extra frigid, and we’ve spent the last few days bundled up warmly inside. This weekend we’ve got no plans so far, except perhaps making more cookies and thinking about a snowy, mountain day trip.

freitag favorites + christmas countdown

Just one more week until we’re off to California to start our holiday west coast tour! I’m so excited, especially because the Pacific Northwest has been having lots of winter weather so we’re looking forward to a white Christmas.

This weekend we’ll be squeezing the last of our Christmas market food and fun with some last minute shopping and family adventures. We’re planning to take Reese on the carousel, stock up on chocolates and treats, and perhaps we’ll also squeeze in another round of churros. 🙂 Read more

freitag favorites + girls’ weekend

Yay, weekend! After this week’s crazy election/first cold of the season/rain, rain, rain, I’m happy to be home and cuddled under a blanket with no big plans for the weekend except time with my favorite girl. Martin is off to Ticino again for another round of training for coaches so it’s just Reese and me. We’ll have plenty of time for reading, maybe a little shopping, and hopefully I’ll even make progress planning our Thanksgiving menu while binge watching “Gilmore Girls” in preparation for the November 25th release of Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.”

So, happy weekend, and enjoy this week’s favorites . . . Read more

freitag favorites + just us

img_1108Since I only work three days a week (or 60% in Swiss employment terms), I feel like I have little room to complain about how busy I am. Still, work is extra busy right now as I’ve recently taken on a new role and responsibilities and so I have a renewed appreciation for weekend (and Sabbath) rest.

This weekend is also the first in awhile without any big plans or overnight guests. We have been so lucky to have so many family and friends visiting this year and helping with Reese and, while I’m sad that we won’t be seeing them until Christmas, I’m also a bit glad for a little break. Read more

freitag favorites + summer farewell

It’s been too quiet on homeschwiizhome this month as we’ve been busy enjoying my favorite month and the final days of a summer. We returned on Monday from a wonderful week on Crete (above) to rainy, chilly Zurich and, since then, have had some beautiful, crisp fall days. Despite this, I’m still wishing for a little more time for relaxing by the beach, swimming, and cuddling a sandy, beach baby.

Martin is off in Scotland until Monday (lucky duck), but my parents and I are at least still squeezing in a few more days of fun before they head home on Sunday. And, as an added bonus, Martin’s sister, Sara, and friends are also dropping by for one more night before heading home from a Croatian holiday.

freitag favorites + five years

I’m really happy to see this week come to an end, especially because it marks the start of a special weekend followed by a short summer holiday.

First, this Sunday marks our five year wedding anniversary. In some ways, it seems like no time has passed; in other ways, so much has changed. Our wedding day was so memorable, beautiful, and mostly, so much fun. Enough time has passed that I would change some small things if I had the opportunity to plan it again, but the most important decision I definitely wouldn’t change. I am so lucky that I get to share every day with Martin, and now watching him with Reese pretty much just makes my heart explode with love for our little family. I love them both so much, and I’m so happy to have a little extra special time to enjoy just being the three of us.

freitag favorites + summer watch guide

This weekend is one of the few this summer that we’re just a family of three at home. We’re loving all our visitors, and are excited about even more to come over the next few months, but it is nice to be just us and not have any real plans for the weekend. We’ll likely end up hiking again, but otherwise we’re plan free. Maybe I’ll even catch-up on more posts about our recent adventures. In the meantime, on to this week’s favorites.
